Already Managed by an Agency?
If you are thinking of switching agencies, then one or more of the following must be true:
- You feel that you are spending too much on monthly management for the results you are getting
- You feel that you could be getting better results
- Your agency take too long to respond to phonecalls or emails
- You don’t feel that your agency cares about your results
If Results are Bad, Where is the Bottleneck?
If the conversions aren’t happening as much as you’d like, its easy to blame AdWords as its being outsourced to someone else’s control. “The Traffic isn’t good enough!” However, the traffic may be excellent, but the bottleneck could exist elsewhere.
Potential bottlenecks:
Within AdWords: Poor ads, not enough keywords, not enough negative keywords, poor optimisation, not paying enough per click, paying too much per click, showing to the wrong places, too small a budget is running out quickly, too high a budget is being wasted on the wrong keywords.
Within the site: poor copywriting, not being credible enough, poor navigation, not a strong call-to-action, long loading times, overuse of flash, not enough information, not compelling enough a product or service.
Within the market: not enough demand, too much competition (high click prices), too high click prices for the profit margin.
Agency Blunders
With larger agencies, you can often receive a counter-intuitively poor service (especially considering the larger management fees). The problem is that the person who looks after your account may shift from month to month – you then lose the benefit of experienced awareness of your campaigns, as well as the invested interest – they simply don’t care about your results.
Most of my clients have been previously managed by other agencies – but weren’t satisfied with the results or service. Occasionally of course, I don’t feel I can improve on the results because the problem lies elsewhere. But sure enough – the problem does lie in the account, and I have been surprised at the mistakes made.
If you are currently with an agency, and would like to talk about the results you are getting and what the problem could be, feel free to get in touch.
